Multiple Injuries, Casualties Reported After Bus Carrying Over 60 People Crashed In Norway's Hadsel

Hadsel: In a tragic accident in Northern Norway, a bus carrying 70 people crashed in the Hadsel district located on Norway’s Northwestern coast on Thursday afternoon. At least three people were killed and several others claimed to have been injured in the accident. Reports suggested that the injured people have been admitted to Nordland Hospital. However, the actual number of victims in the accident is yet to be determined.

Bent Are Eilertsen, Chief of Staff of the Nordland Police District said he believed there were between 60 and 70 people on board the bus. The accident happened at around 1.30 pm (local time) in the Hadsel district.

As per reports, the bus landed in the water after a major crash. Four people were seriously injured in the crash, and three of them were airlifted to Stokmarknes Hospital by rescue helicopters. Other injured passengers were taken to a nearby school for treatment.

According to reports, there were heavy snowdrifts and strong winds in the area at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the accident. Emergency services, including fire, ambulance, and police teams, responded quickly to the scene. Volunteers from the Norwegian Red Cross also sent teams to help.

The crash has been described as a "very serious situation" by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, who expressed his condolences on social media. "My thoughts are with everyone involved and affected," he said, acknowledging the confirmed fatalities and serious injuries.

Local authorities have set up a crisis team to support the families of the victims and provide assistance at a reception centre. The operation to rescue everyone from the bus has been completed, and all passengers have been accounted for.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to provide support to those affected by the tragedy.
