The internet is known for often circulating interesting mind-games which are highly appreciated by the users, and going with the trend, recently a maths puzzle has surfaced on social media platforms that have left netizens scratching their heads. While it is unclear how the equation surfaced on the Internet, people around the world are debating over the answer of the seemingly simple math equation.
The equation which reads '8 ÷ 2 ( 2 + 2) = ?' has two probable answers: 1, as well as 16 for some reason, and netizens have stormed Twitter in debating it.

You need to see the how bracket is created.

There can be two cases:
Case 1:
8 ÷ 2 x (2+2) = 8 ÷ 2 x 4 = 4 x 4 = 16
Case 2 (Given case):
8 ÷ 2(2+2) = 8 ÷ 2(4) = 8 ÷ 8 = 1
RULE is STEP-BY-STEP following of BODMAS (Bracket, Of, Divide, Multiply, Add, Subtract)
Hope it helps !
This made my brain ache...... so many conflicting answers on here this morning! #bodmas pic.twitter.com/njCpzPpP8p

Answer is 1 (One) https://t.co/bDvH8pptVa
Here's why people are getting two different answers:
Interestingly, both 1 and 16 are correct answers. The confusion is occurring because of the differences in teaching and learning styles of people around the world. Since part of the world teaches BODMAS and part teaches PEMDAS the answer of a simple algebraic equation can be quite confusing at times. According to BODMAS the Brackets comes first followed by Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction. In certain regions, PEMDAS which stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction is followed and it is a synonym of BODMAS. It explains the order of operations to solve an expression. If one solves the equation following BODMAS, the answer is 16 and if you do PEMDAS, the answer is 1.

If you do PEMDAS, the answer is 1. If you do BEDMAS, the answer is 16 https://t.co/RVH4DwiA0i
