Chidambaram gets Pakistani backing, fake-news neta says 'shocking'
Pakistan Senator Rehman Malik is now batting for Congress leader P Chidambaram and condemning his arrest by the CBI in the money-laundering case against him
In an unprecedented incident, Pakistan Senator Rehman Malik is now batting for Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram and condemning his arrest by the CBI in the money laundering cases against him. In an interview to Pakistan media, Rehman Malik termed Chidambaram's arrest as "shocking". Dragging the issue of Kashmir over the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A by the Centre, Pakistan Senator Rehman Malik went on to claim that Chidambaram was arrested as "he had raised voice against PM Narendra Modi’s unilateral decision to revoke Articles 370 and 35A".
Rehman Malik went on to claim that Chidambaram's arrest was "victimization of a political opponent", alleging that the senior Congress leader was arrested as a part of a "plot to suppress dissent and to divert attention from the recent unrest in Kashmir", as quoted by Pakistan media.
Pakistan sings to Congress' tune
Just like Pakistan Senator Rehman Malik, Congress leaders had also attacked the establishment over action against Chidambaram. Amid the high-end political drama over Chidambaram's arrest by the CBI, Congress leaders had targeted the Centre and the probe agencies in the matter. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, among others, had taken to Twitter to hit out at CBI and ED for doing their job and calling actions against Chidambaram "character assassination". Priyanka Gandhi had also spoken for the former Finance Minister saying that the party will continue to stand by him and fight for the truth.
Chidambaram sent to CBI custody
On Thursday, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram was sent to CBI custody till August 26 by a special CBI Court in Delhi for questioning in the money-laundering probe against him in the INX Media case. The Rouse Avenue Court also asked the CBI to ensure the dignity of the accused is not violated in any manner during the custodial interrogation, adding that Chidambaram's family members and lawyers could meet him for 30 minutes a day.
Rehman Malik spread fake news
Earlier on August 13, J&K police had called out the shambolic attempt by Pakistan senator Abdul Rehman Malik NI for spreading malicious content on social media in an attempt to cause unrest and disrupt peace, following the abrogation of Article 370. Rehman Malik had put out a post wherein he had made the ludicrous claim that the Indian Army had used helicopter gunships to go to war with the citizens of J&K. However, exposing the fake news propaganda of Rehman Malik, J&K police took him on directly and said "the malicious content is strongly rebutted".
