Hours after a bid to designate Masood Azhar as a Global terrorist was blocked at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan's opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has questioned Pakistan's inaction against groups that attack "other nations", delivering a stinging rebuke of his country's government.
Bilawal Bhutto, son of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was addressing a media at the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday where the top opposition leader decried the contrast between the punishment given to his mother and his father -- former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari -- and the lack of action against "groups that killed children in Pakistan and carried out attacks on foreign soil".
He said," If you can arrest the opposition so easily...leave the opposition...even if it a critique, a small blogger or anyone opposes, the entire state apparatus is used against him. Is this the message we are giving out to the World? Immunity for banned organizations? Yet, you can jail the three-time elected Prime Minister of this country but cannot take action against those who kill the children of my state and conduct terror activities in foreign soil."
Here his statement below:
Adding to that, Bilawal Bhutto claimed there are at least three ministers from Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party who have links to banned groups. He then put forth 3 conditions for the government to fulfil and prove seriousness:
- Form Parliament's National Security Committee
- Distance from past actions/statements in support of the banned organisation
- Remove 3 ministers who have had an association with the banned organisation
Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that no terrorist group would be allowed to operate from Pakistani soil to carry out attacks abroad. Ties between India and Pakistan have plummeted since a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber killed 40 CRPF soldiers in southern Kashmir on February 14.
