A Pakistani woman has been charged for throwing her newborn baby from the sixth floor of a multi-storey building in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area, according to ARY news. The woman was detained by the Pakistani police for assaulting her child. It was found that the woman's “mental stability was questionable" which would have led her to jeopardise the safety of the child. The eyewitnesses and the neighbours stated that the woman was perhaps a drug addict and that she was not in the right state of mental being to be able to take care of the baby.

“The woman will also be examined by a psychiatrist”, the Pakistan police's statement read.

25 years old woman shot dead

The harrowing incident comes just days after a 25-year-old woman, a doctor by profession, was shot dead by her family in the Punjab province. The incident occurred in the Mianwali district of Punjab, approximately 300 km from Lahore, the provincial capital. Police identified the woman as Sidra Khan, and suspected the case of honour killing by her family. The woman wanted to marry a colleague, also a doctor, but her father wasn't ready for it.  "Over a week ago, Sidra's father came to her clinic in Mianwali city and argued with her over the matter. During the argument, he pulled out a gun and opened fire on her leaving her critically injured," the police said in a statement. While she was rushed to the hospital, the woman died on the way, succumbing to her injuries.

Last month, a newly wed couple were brutally killed by unidentified suspects in Pakistan's Punjab. The assailants entered the house of Muhammad Zulfiqar, 30, and Shagufta Bibi, 23, and shot them dead on the spot. The man was a resident of Phoolnagar, Kasur district, located around 60 km from Lahore. He had got married to Shagufta without the consent of her family, police said later in a statement. The couple became the victim of the honour killing. "The family of Shagufta was against her choice as they wanted to marry her off to a relative. A couple of weeks ago she eloped with Zulfiqar whom she loved and contracted court marriage," the police informed.
