PM Modi reiterates stance against terrorism to Pakistan PM Imran Khan on latter's congratulatory call for 2019 election victory

Responding to Pakistani PM Imran Khan's congratulatory phone call on being re-elected as the country's Prime Minister, PM-elect Narendra Modi, on Sunday has reiterated his stance against Pakistan' support to terror groups emphasizing how it was necessary to hold talks peace between the countries.

In the tweet posted by Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, the press release read:

"The Prime Minister thanked the Prime Minister of Pakistan for his telephone call and greetings. Recalling his initiative in line with his government's neighborhood first policy, Prime Minister Modi referred to his earlier suggestions to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to fight poverty jointly. He stressed that creating trust and an environment free of violence and terrorism were essential for fostering cooperation for peace, progress, and prosperity in our region."

Earlier in the day, official spokesperson of Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affair Dr. Mohammad Faisal had tweeted that Imran Khan had congratulated his Indian counterpart, over the phone, for "his party's electoral victory in the elections". He added that Imran Khan also expressed his "desire for both countries to work together for the betterment of their people" over the phone with PM Modi. 

He also tweeted that the Pakistan PM reiterated his vision for peace, progress, and prosperity in South Asia, adding that he looks forward to working with PM Modi to advance the objectives". 

Earlier on May 23 amid the counting of votes of 2019 polls, Pakistan PM Imran Khan had congratulated his Indian counterpart as the NDA won a historic mandate in the Lok Sabha Elections winning 353 seats in the lower Parliamentary house.
