A new “porn passport” will now verify users’ age before they can access adult content online, stated the Spanish government which is set to launch this feature in its upcoming Digital Wallet app. Officially called Cartera Digital Beta (Digital Wallet Beta), the app will allow websites to confirm if a person is of legal age to view the porn video without revealing any private information.To use the service, adults will need to provide proof of identity, but their private details will not be shared with porn sites. The app will only confirm that the user is over the required age, blocking children from accessing explicit material. Once users verify their age, they will receive 30 "porn credits," each giving them access to adult websites for one month. These credits come with a unique QR code and allow users to visit porn sites up to 10 times before they expire. If a user runs out of credits, they will be reminded to renew their "porn passport" for more access. The government has emphasized that using the Digital Wallet app is voluntary, as long as adult websites offer other valid age verification methods. Spain is one of the first countries to create a state-supported system for age-checking adult content, aiming to protect minors from early exposure to pornography. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez highlighted the growing concern, telling El País newspaper, “The data is devastating. Almost half of young people under 15 years of age consume it,” referring to the high rates of pornography consumption among teenagers.
