Protestors gathered outside Russia's embassy in Paris Tuesday in protest against the Kremlin's ongoing aggression on the border with Ukraine. Yannick Jadot, the environmental candidate of the EELV (Europe Écologie Les Verts) party for the French Presidential elections, called for the protest.
Political activists and also members of the Ukrainian, Georgian and Belarussian communities were seen carrying their respective flags. Jadot accused Putin of wanting to "put an end to democracy and the sovereignty of Ukrainians."
Meanwhile, protesters expressed hope that stronger economic sanctions will send a message to the Russian leader. Oliver Ash, a protestor from Paris, called Britain's sanctions against five Russian banks and three Russian nationals "just pathetic."
"It needs to go much wider than that, much further and immediately," he added. Earlier in the day, Germany took steps to halt the process of certifying the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia.
