Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday condemned those who insulted a believer's faith during a video conference with religious leaders.
Speaking from Moscow, Putin also told the leaders that traditional values now faced "serious threats."
He added that "interreligious and interethnic" tensions were matters that "terrorists and radicals" would try and "sponge on."
Putin's comments come a week after an attacker armed with a knife killed three people inside a church in the French city Nice.
It was the third attack in two months in France that authorities have attributed to Muslim extremists, including the beheading of a teacher who had shown the caricatures to his class during a lesson on free speech.
