Tourists in the Chilean city of Pucon watched rain pour with disappointment on Saturday, as an overcast sky potentially ruined a chance to see a total solar eclipse due to happen on Monday. Pucon was expected to be an opportune area to appreciate the eclipse's complete darkness, but weather forecasted a high chance of rain.
"We expected sunny days, but it seems that the rain will not stop, and we do not know if we will be able to see the eclipse," said Penaloza, who traveled a 10-hour journey with her family.
The news of bad weather was welcomed by Veronica Saez, a handcrafts shop owner. "It will be much better if it rains, otherwise people will be crowded and we will take more risks," said Saez. Local health authorities provided COVID-19 tests in the Pucown city center, in an attempt to trace a possible spread. The eclipse is expected this Monday and is the second in the year for Chile.
