As world leaders from across the globe gather under a roof for the G20 Summit 2019 in Japan's Osaka, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro found himself in a fix after his air entourage to the international conference was arrested with 39 kilos of cocaine.
Bolsonaro, also identified as the 'Trump of the Tropics' had promised a crackdown on drugs, ironically found himself in a situation, after his crew member who was flying on a separate plane was caught with the cocaine. Bolsonaro's crew member later stated that the substance found was 'cheese'
After being aware of the issue, the Brazilian President was quick to distance himself from the accused and tweeted that the officer arrested for drugs 'has no relationship' with his team and even went on to call the incident 'unacceptable'
Bolsonaro was flying on a separate airplane while the arrest was made.
A statement released by Brazil's Defence Ministry said: "The Defence Ministry informs that, on Tuesday 25th, an Air Force officer suspected of transporting narcotic substances was detained in the Seville Airport in Spain.
As per the reports of Brazalian media, the arrested has previously accompanied three Presidents of Brazil for 29 journeys.
On Friday, Bolsonaro chaired an informal BRICS meeting on the sidelines of G20 Summit 2019 in Japan's Osaka. The BRICS meet included- Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, Russia President Vladimir Putin, PM Narendra Modi, China President Xi Jinping & South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa.
"On that occasion, BRICS leaders will discuss issues related to the G20 agenda, such as recent developments in the economy and the international financial system, energy transitions and the digital economy," the Brazalian foreign ministry statement said.
