Amazon Prime Student deal gave new users £5 off their first purchase with a code 'Welcome5', but users were quick to find a glitch with the discount code which has potentially cost the company hundreds of thousands. The code was supposed to give new customers a discount on their first purchase but instead, students quickly got on to the fact that it could be reused multiple times. The news of the glitch spread like a wildfire across UK campuses and students began to stock everyday items.

A 19-year-old student in Newcastle told an international media outlet that the students started looking for useful stuff that was fiver or under and discovered there were lots that would be handy for them. He further added that they never have to buy toiletries, cheap novels, highlighter pens, folders or batteries again during their whole university career and beyond. According to the 19-year-old, the deal was like an addictive game as they were trying to get things whatever they could find for £5. Another student from Nottingham said that he was able to save £164 on 36 items, including food, stationery and more.

Accommodation turned warehouse

One student reportedly managed to get £2,500 worth of goods for nothing and many bought enough household goods. Student accommodation in London, Durham. Nottingham, Manchester, Salford, and Hertfordshire began to resemble warehouses. A student also claims that he started sending goods home to his mom as he didn't have space left in his flat. The glitch was there for nine days until the company realized.
