A brand new advertisement by Coco-Cola owned, Sprite, celebrating the Marcha de Orgullo, Bueno Aires Pride, has garnered a lot of attention in Argentina with the hashtag #NoEstasSolx as they aimed to spread the message of love and unity. The beverage company has focused on the LGBTQ families in the heartwarming advertisement and have shown family members supporting their LGBTQ family and friends as they helped them get ready for the Pride parade.
An effort to spread the message of love and unity
The 1 minute and 35 seconds video showcases a diverse range of small clips — which includes a mother helping her son put on makeup, a young girl helping to bind her transgender brother's chest, a grandmother helping her grandson getting dressed up and a family with young children painting an LGBTQ Pride flag. The video ends with a clip where a father can be seen driving his son and his son's boyfriend to the Pride parade.
The advertisement spreading love and unity was made with the help of Federacion Argentina LGBT and was released online just a day before the Buenos Aires Pride Parade.
Argentina's laws have been in support of the LGBTQ community. In the year 2010, Argentina was tagged as the first Latin-American country and the 10th country in the world to allow same-sex marriage.
Argentina has supported its LGBT people to an extent that the 2012 Gender Identity Law allows transgender people to legally change their gender without facing hurdles such as surgery, psychiatric diagnosis, and hormone therapy.
Ad campaign went wrong
Two years ago Pepsi had apologised for an advertisement in which they were trying to spread the message of love and unity by selling soda. The ad campaign featured reality star, Kendall Jenner, at a scene of the protest. Kendall could be seen joining the protesters as they approached police officers. In what could be termed as a tense situation, quickly turned into cheers as Kendall picked up a can of Pepsi and gave it to a police officer.
The particular image of Kendall approaching the police officer was a clear reference from the iconic picture of Ieshia Evans, a black woman who had stood against the police forces during a Black Lives Matter Protest that took place after the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling by the police forces in the year 2016.
The ad faced backlash and daughter of Martin Luther King Jr, Bernice King, who joined the bandwagon in criticizing the ad campaign by posting a tweet that has a reference of her father.
If only Daddy would have known about the power of #Pepsi. pic.twitter.com/FA6JPrY72V
