An Australian woman found a cute puppy in her backyard after she heard whimpering outside her home, it was later found out that it was actually a pure breed of rare dingo on November 1. The story was reportedly made public by the woman herself on Facebook saying she is unsure whether the animal is a fox or a dog. However, since she was unable to decide, the animal was taken to Alpine Animal Hospital where the DNA test revealed the truth, after which Dingo named 'Wandi' was sent to the Australian Dingo Foundation's sanctuary to be looked after. The dingo is Australia's only native canine and is therefore protected in national parks under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.

Part of the breeding program

After several weeks of wait by the sanctuary, when it was revealed by UNSW's genetic lab that the animal is 100 percent Victoria highlands Dingo, the organization also disclosed that Wandi will become part of the breeding program. The sanctuary will utilize the new genes to increase the strength along with the diversity of the population of pure dingoes. Furthermore, while answering the curious question as to how a dingo landed up in a woman's backyard, doctors said that it might be an eagle who dropped the animal off because of the presence of wounds on Wandi's back.

'He was adorable'

Many officials believe that it was understandable to confuse a dingo with a dog, however, there has been an increase in dingo killing because most people think of them as foxes. However, doctors also said that he was adorable with 'serious puppy cuteness'. It made it easier to treat the animal as he did not have any 'fear of people' and was even 'calm' about the entire process of testing and then being transferred to the sanctuary. The woman, however, was guessing it was not a dog because the location of her property which is Wandiligong bushland property has a lot of wildlife nearby.
