China confirmed Tuesday it will take part in emergency talks led by the United Nations over the coronavirus outbreak that's infected more than 200 people.

Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said it would share information with other countries and agencies during the gathering, which he said was due to take place Tuesday.

"China will continue to deepen cooperation with other countries to jointly tackle the epidemic and safeguard regional and global health security," Geng told a news conference in Beijing.

Four people have died as a result of the outbreak, which is believed to have originated from a seafood market in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Geng said authorities in Wuhan were screening people entering and leaving the city.

"People need to go through some examinations when entering and leaving Wuhan," he said, but he made clear this didn't amount to a travel ban.
