The Dominican Republic has closed its borders with neighboring Haiti following the assassination of Haitian President Jovenal Moïse on Wednesday. Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader, in a meeting with the military high command, ordered the closure of all frontiers and the reinforcement of patrols at critical points along its borders.

Binational market activities in the border provinces were also suspended until further notice. The Jimani border guard in the province of Independence said that the border gates will only be opened to let "all Dominicans who require evacuation" as well as consular staff leave Haiti. Abinader has stated on Twitter that the "crime is an attack on the democratic order of Haiti and the region".
