Gold toilet worth $1.3 mn has over 40,000 diamonds in its seat

A diamond-studded, gold toilet created by a Hong Kong jeweller stole the show after it was unveiled at the second China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. The gold toilet costs a whopping 12 million yuan or $1.3 million. While gold toilets aren’t uncommon, this one comes with a toilet seat made of bulletproof glass that encases 40,815 small diamonds.
The toilet was produced by Coronet, a brand owned by Hong Kong jewellery firm Aaron Shum, the lavish toilet is one of many other exquisite diamond-studded items at the event, including white gold, diamond-encrusted guitar estimated to be worth $2 million.
The ostentatious toilet is an attempt by the jeweller to set a Guinness World Record for “The Most Diamonds set in a Toilet”. Coronet already holds records for putting the most diamonds on a sunglass, watch mobile case and a handbag shaped like a Coca-Cola bottle.
Although the design attracted many at the pavilion, its creator doesn’t plan to sell the toilet. Talking to international media, the famous Hong Kong jeweller said, “We would like to build a diamond art museum so that more people can enjoy it”.
18-carat-gold toilet stolen
Earlier an 18-carat-gold working gold-toilet has been stolen from the Blenheim Palace on October 14, informed the Thames Police. The Police said that a gang broke into the palace and stole the artwork. The Police said that the theft cause flooding in the palace as the toilet was plumbed from its place. The Palace was hosting an exhibition by Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan from Thursday. The stolen artwork was a part of his art.
Issuing an official statement, the Blenheim palace which is a World Heritage site and also the birthplace of Winston Churchill requested that if people have seen anything suspicious then they can inform the Thames Police. It also informed that the incident caused the unavoidable situation in the palace and therefore the palace will be closed till lunchtime.
The official statement also added: "We are very grateful to our staff and to Thames Valley Police for their rapid and brave reactions. We knew there was huge interest in the Maurizio Cattelan contemporary art exhibition, with many sets to come and enjoy the installations. It’s, therefore, a great shame an item so precious has been taken, but we still have so many fascinating treasures in the Palace and the remaining items of the exhibition to share." Palace chief executive Dominic Hare was quoted saying by foreign media that he was "saddened by this extraordinary event, but also relieved no-one was hurt."
