A Hong Kong police officer shot at protesters during the violent clashes, on November 11, which hit at least one of them in the chest in the district of Sai Wan Ho. The clashes were broadcasted live on Facebook in which a police officer can be seen shooting a protester in the chest area when he tried to stop the officer from detaining a fellow masked protester.
Police detained injured protesters
Seconds after shooting the protester, the police officer fired two live rounds which led to another masked man falling to the ground. The condition of the masked protesters shot by the police officer is not known. In the video, police were apparently trying to detain both the protesters as one of them had a pool of blood next to him. It was the third such instance when pro-democracy protesters have been shot with live rounds by police.
A student was shot in the chest on October 1 when he, along with other protesters, tried to attack a police officer. Another protester was shot in the leg after a policeman's car was attacked by the crowd. Both protesters survived the injuries and were arrested.
Protests continued after a student's death
Hong Kong witnessed four consecutive days of protests since the death of a University student, Alex Chow, which was reported as the first death during the months-long unrest. Chow fell off a parking garage during the clashes between protesters and police officials and was in a coma since November 4. Later on November 8, he died of injuries as confirmed by the hospital authorities.
Anti-Beijing voices grew strong as chants of “Hong Kong people, revenge” and “A blood debt must be paid in blood.” reverberated across the city. “His death is a reminder to us that we cannot give up,” said a protester on local television. People, through social media, had called for a general strike on Monday morning after another weekend of protests.
