Iran reported on Sunday its death toll from the new coronavirus has reached 3,603.

The spokesperson for the Iranian Health Ministry said 151 people have died from COVID-19 since yesterday.

Kianoush Jahanpour also reported 2,483 new cases, saying the total number confirmed cases has reached 58,226.

Based on reports coming from countries, Iran is battling the most severe coronavirus outbreak in the Middle East.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

The vast majority of people recover.
