German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and his Israeli counterpart Gabi Ashkenazi gave a joint news conference on Thursday morning after their meeting at the Haus of the Wannsee conference in Berlin.

Ashkenazi discussed Iran's involvement in "terror activities" and "regional militia", saying the country's activities had been "undermining the stability in the region."

He also discussed Israel's annexation policy and it's move from "annexation to normalization", arguing that the policy had "left the door open for our neighbours."

"Now it's up to their decision and their choice to join," Ashkenazi said.

Maas commented on attacks on the border with Lebanon, saying that the German government "strongly condemned" what happened there and that it intends to "support the mediation efforts of Egypt and the United Nations" in the region.

He said that cooperation with Israel had become "much easier after the Israeli government's decision to suspend the annexation plans" and that German has "an interest in developing relations between the EU and Israel."

The news conference came ahead of a meeting between EU foreign ministers, with Israel's foreign minister in attendance.
