Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has vowed to ensure the health and safety of the upcoming Tokyo Olympics this summer as the country confirmed its first death from the coronavirus.
Speaking at a government meeting on Olympic preparations in Tokyo on Friday, Abe stressed the need for enhancing security measures, traffic, and transportation in addition to tackling heat and infectious diseases.
Japan reported its first domestic death caused by the new coronavirus on Thursday, hours after confirming 44 more cases on a cruise ship quarantined near Tokyo.
