Japan to allocate $6.6 million to recover from damage by Hagibis
In the aftermath of Hagibis Typhoon, the Japanese government is going to allocate of 710 million yen ($6.6 million) for the affected areas to recover.
In the aftermath of the Hagibis Typhoon, the Japanese government is going to allocate of 710 million yen ($6.6 million) for the affected areas. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, at a meeting of parliament’s budget committee, said that the decision will be taken to ensure sufficient money gets allocated for recovery efforts.
None of the missing persons located yet
"We want citizens to resume normal life as soon as possible very much. We will do everything possible to ensure that administrations of the affected areas do not worry about finance and can focus on recovery," said Abe at the meeting.
Though the search and rescue operation is underway, none of the missing persons have been located and 74 people have died due to the devastating typhoon as per the latest reports.
Evacuation before the landfall
According to Japan’s cabinet office, more than 2,30,000 people were evacuated from the coastal areas before the typhoon made landfall. It claimed that around 5,500 people are still housed in shelters.
“In the 28 years of my life, this is the first time I’ve had to evacuate even before a typhoon has landed,” said Yusuke Ikegaya, a Shizuoka resident.
The meteorological agency official, Yasushi Kajihara, had warned of heavy rainfall ahead of the typhoon, saying “Be ready for rainfall of the kind that you have never experienced”.
Earthquake amid Hagibis
Thousands of houses are submerged in water with Fukushima, Miyagi, Kanagawa, Tochigi, Saitama, Nagano and Shizuoka prefectures among the worst affected due to the typhoon. The destruction was amplified by an earthquake that jolted the Kanto region with a magnitude of 5.7. The epicentre of the earthquake was in the Pacific Ocean off Chiba Prefecture which struck at 6.22 pm local time on October 12. The quake recorded a 4 in southern Chiba Prefecture on Japan’s quake intensity scale of 7 and 3 in the 23 wards of central Tokyo.
