After damaging the southern islands with strong winds and heavy rains causing floods and minor injuries, Tapah, the powerful typhoon, is heading northeast to Japan's main island Honshu on September 22. Typhoon Tapah was initially passing near Nagasaki in southern Japan on Sunday afternoon after hitting southern Japan in the first two days. Japan's Meteorological Agency has also issued a warning and informed that the speed of the storm is 30 kilometers per hour, with maximum winds of 162 kilometers per hour.

Typhoon Tapah

The typhoon hit Okinawa on September 20 and September 21, leaving 18 people with minor injuries. The storm resulted in disruption in travel, both air, and train in the region during the three-day weekend. According to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency, a tornado has been believed to be triggered by the typhoon in Nobeoka City in Miyazaki prefecture damaging one house and minor injuries of two people. Japan's Meteorological Department issued warnings of heavy rain in the Kyushu, Shikoku, Chugoku area. The powerful winds lashed a cargo container into an electricity tower. This caused power loss in a few train stations in the area. Evidently, Tapah is expected to move towards the strait between South Korea and Japan to finally make landfall in South Korea. According to Korea's national weather agency, the winds are expected to be of 126 kilometers per hour in speed.

Disruptions in the country

The Sunday's entrance exam was postponed for the city's employees due to the typhoon. Typhoon Tapah has also alerted parts of Chiba, near Tokyo with fears. The same regions were hit by another typhoon earlier this year which damaged many houses and electric poles. The electric pole damages caused widespread blackouts. It also fueled criticism about the old infrastructure systems in Japan. Hundreds of domestic flights in Japan have been canceled because of the typhoon and similar disruptions are expected when it will make its landfall in South Korea later on September 22. Reportedly, nearly 400 flights operated by Japan Airlines along with approximately 300 South Korean domestic flights have been canceled as of noon. Power restoration and cleaning operations are ongoing in parts of Chiba.
