To mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, an audio-visual extravaganza was premiered at the University of Witwatersrand's Great hall in South Africa on Saturday to spread the message of peace through his favourite songs. It was lauded by South Africans. According to Bharghav Purohit from the music composer duo Bhargav-Kedar, "This was a deliberate strategy to appeal to the youth as we send out the universal message of peace and the values that Gandhi ji espoused, but we have found that even older people in the audience enjoyed the show." The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is on October 2.
The Tribute Programme
The tribute programme was organized to send out a message of peace and harmony. Apart from an audio-visual programme of Mahatma Gandhi's favourite songs, an exhibition of 19 huge panels recalling highlights of Gandhi's life was organized. The exhibition also promoted Gujarat as a tourist destination. According to the curator, Varun Sutaria, who put together the programme with assistance from local events coordinator Anil Rambaran, "We are delighted with the response here in Johannesburg and are currently negotiating several global venues to take the show there."
