McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook fired over consensual relationship
The food giant McDonald has fired its chief executive officer Steve Easterbrook after he was engaged in a consensual relationship with one of the employees
The American food giant, McDonald’s just fired its chief executive officer Steve Easterbrook after he was engaged in a consensual relationship with one of the employees and violated the company policy. Easterbrook accepted the accusation by the company board and wrote in his email that it's time for him to move ahead. The company appointed Chris Kempczinski as the new CEO of McDonald's.

In a news release by the food giant, it read that the board of directors determined that Steve Easterbrook displayed a sense of poor judgment by getting involved in a relationship. On the other hand, Easterbrook told the board of members, that he accepts committing a mistake. Easterbrook said in his mail to all the employee which was publicly released by the company on November 3. Therefore, Easterbrook voluntarily gave up his position. The company has not provided any other information on Easterbrook’s departure. However, the company might reveal the financial information related to Easterbrook's expulsion in a securities filing on November 4. According to the reports, Brian Krzanich, who was the CEO of Intel Corp resigned from his position after he found that Steve Easterbrook shared a consensual relationship with one of the employees which breached the policy of the organisation.
Chris Kempczinski appointed as new CEO
Chris Kempczinski, who previously held the position of the President of McDonald's USA, was appointed as the CEO, effective immediately and simultaneously will be part of the board of directors. Also, Joe Erlinger has been named as the President of McDonald's USA, who earlier held the position of President of international operated markets.
This is not the first time an employee has been fired for engaging in a relationship with the employee violating the company policy. However, concerns regarding such situations have been intensified due to the #MeToo movement which trended on social media. The movement raised questions regarding the code of conduct in workplaces at the same time brought several incidences of sexual harassment to the limelight.
