Netizens want Aquaman actor Jason Momoa and activist Greta Thunberg to team up to fight against climate change. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg drew the attention of people across the world after her powerful speech at the United Nations on climate change on September 23. She also won the Rights Livelihood Award, also known as the 'Alternative Noble Prize'. Likewise, joining other celebrities and activists in speaking out against climate change, Jason Momoa spoke on behalf of island nations at a United Nations event in New York on September 27. Focusing on the health of oceans, the actor spoke about how climate change is affecting island nations including his native Hawaii. Momoa's movie Aquaman also focused on the plague humanity has brought upon on the oceans.

Momoa's address on climate change

Speaking passionately about the state of pollution and oceans, Momoa said, “The oceans are in a state of emergency. Entire marine ecosystems are vanishing with the warming of the seas, and as the waste of our world empties into our waters, we face the devastating crisis of plastic pollution. We are a disease that is infecting our planet. As a human species, we need the earth to survive. But make no mistake – the earth doesn’t need us. The people will hold our governments and corporate powers accountable for the destruction you are allowing our environment.”

Momoa's address also included the statistics that there are now more plastic particles in the ocean that there are stars in the sky. He said that plastic pollution is a known problem, causing harm to marine life and damage to the soil. The same was raised by Greta who at the UN spoke powerfully about the climate change crisis. Greta spoke about the dramatic increase in carbon emissions over the years.
