New royal puppies revive the bloodline of late Thai king's old dog

After four years of the demise of Thailand's most loved pet, Khun Thong Daeng, it has revived new royal puppies related to the old royal dog. The dog who died a year before his owner was a dear friend to the deceased Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The royal pet was quite old at the time of her death in the year 2015. After the death of the king in 2016, his son was crowned as the new Thailand king following the national mourning period which ended this year. As a mark of respect to his late father, Maha Vajiralongkorn gave the nod to a project which was to revive the bloodline of Khun Thong Daeng.

Eight healthy puppies are born

As the nation witnessed the third death anniversary of King Adulyadej, the Basenji dog's offsprings were revealed to the public. There are eight puppies in total who are related to the late royal pet who were born using artificial methods. Kasetsart University who took charge of the project used artificial insemination with frozen semen of the sons of the royal dog that were stored since the year 2005. As many as eight puppies have been born who are the descendants of Khun Thong Daeng. Kasetsart University in a statement to a news agency said that it was a wish of King Maha Vajiralongkorn to extend the lineage of his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej beloved pet Khun Thong Daeng so that they are remembered for a long period. Five of the eight puppies were born in the month of June this year and three were born in September. Khun Thong Daeng, who died four years ago was favourite of the people of Thailand because of her loyalty to their beloved king.

A common dog who is uncommon

King Bhumibol Adulyadej's dearest pet was a female copper-coloured dog of a mixed breed. He embraced her in the year 1998 from the litter of a stray hound that had been taken in by a medical centre. The name of the dog who was adopted by the Thailand king means copper in Thai. The king often addressed her as a common dog who is uncommon. He also wrote a biography on her in the year 2002 which is titled The Story of Tongdaeng. A film made on the life story of King's pet dog was released in November 2015 which was titled Khun Tongdaeng: The Inspirations.
