New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden and her partner Clarke Gayford got engaged over the Easter break as confirmed by a spokesperson from her office. The couple welcomed their first child, Neve Gayford and met each other back in 2013 when Clarke had gone to complain to a member of parliament about the then- National Party government's proposed changes to the security legislation.
After the news broke out, the couple is being widely congratulated on social media.
Meanwhile, NZ Prime Minister Arden garnered headlines around the globe following her response to the Christchurch massacre in March that killed more than 50 people.
A day after the attack, the Prime Minister led a multi-party group to visit the grieving families and Muslim community members and made tightening gun laws a priority in her government. The 38-year-old Prime Minister is the second elected leader to give birth while in office after Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto in 1990.
