North Korea's executive committees held a meeting on Tuesday led by the country's premier Kim Jong Un to discuss COVID-19 precautions, coming as it enters its ninth month of an international lockdown.

The meeting of the politburo was reported by the North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) early Wednesday morning local time, together with six still photos on its website of Kim at the meeting, in the ruling Workers' Party Central Committee building in Pyongyang.

"The meeting pointed out some faults found in preventing the inroads of the malignant virus and had an in-depth study and discussion about the issues on further intensifying the state emergency anti-epidemic work," KCNA reported.

However, there was no acknowledgement of any actual COVID-19 cases in the country, with no official reporting of any confirmed coronavirus cases.

Since January the country has kept up very stern warnings against the virus, with limited resources available for hygiene and health care.

It shut down all its normal international travel routes, which even in normal times are few, in late January this year, putting a halt to all scheduled passenger flights by its flag-carrier Air Koryo.

There have been very few movements of diplomats and other foreigners in and out of the country acknowledged since then.

The politburo meeting also addressed natural disaster recovery efforts, after North Korea was hit by repeated storms and typhoons in August and September.

Widespread dilapidated infrastructure makes North Korea vulnerable to heavy weather.

In spite of all of the issues discussed in the meeting, North Korea is continuing planning to celebrate the 75th anniversary of its ruling Workers' Party on 10 October this year.
