An obese cat who is desperate to lose some weight is winning hearts across social media. Cinderblock, the obese cat who seeks to live longer with her ‘purrfect’ workout sessions was seen having underwater treadmill sessions in a video that went viral on the internet. Earlier, the lazy cat became an internet sensation with her ‘one-paw workout’. But this time the cat is all set for the run.
Cinderblock suffers from obesity
The 8-year old feline was taken to Northshore Veterinary Hospital in Bellingham which is located near the Canadian border for euthanasia. The cat's previous owner had developed health issues and has an ailing father to care for. She couldn't cope with taking care of Cinderblock as well. Cinder reportedly weighs 25 pounds and has certain health issues. The veterinary doctors prescribed regular workout sessions for the cat to reduce weight. Veterinarian Kiffney and his team prepared an underwater treadmill plan to execute the same.
The underwater treadmill workout
Kiffney told media that Cinderblock's previous owner had a father who was suffering from dementia and therefore overfed the cat. Kiffney and his team together made a workout plan for the cat to lose weight. The Northshore Veterinary Hospital posted an upgraded video of the cat working out on the treadmill, this time with more amount of water.
The post read, “Many people have wondered why we are subjecting Cinder to the underwater treadmill. Cinder has arthritis in multiple joints and is carrying an extra 10 lb of body weight. The water provides a reduced weight-bearing environment that increases the functional use of limbs without marked weight loading and resultant discomfort to joints. She's still in the process of becoming acclimated to this treadmill and the water level is lower than we would like just so she can become used to the process.”
Animal obesity is a major concern
The video received more than 2.2 million views. Kiffney further said that obesity is a major concern even for domesticated pets as much as it is for humans. He said that it is important to raise awareness among people regarding animal obesity and his team is certainly dedicated to the cause.
