A video of a 33-year-old Chinese man, Liu Shichao, recently went viral after he was filmed downing a pint of beer, a can of Pepsi and a big glass of shots that garnered a lot of attention on social media platforms such a Twitter. In another video that garnered 80,000 hits, Liu can be seen smoking a cigarette and having six cocktails. One more video shows him mixing beer, red wine, vodka, whiskey, egg and having it all together in one go.
"I can do that too"
In an interview with an international media outlet, Shichao, who calls himself a "peasant", stated that it all started when he downed seven bottles of lager in 50 seconds. Shichao said he saw a few people drinking beer and thought that he could also do it.
He further added that he started uploading his videos on China's online platform for video sharing, Kuaishou, and gained a lot of fans. He also said that owing to the 60 seconds time limit on the website, he had to gulp down his drinks very quickly to shoot the videos in a minute.
Before Kuaishou shut down the internet sensation's account due to the content he posted, he had a total of 470,000 followers and earned up to 10,000 Yuan every month. Later on, one of his videos was shared on Twitter that garnered him a massive fan following from different parts of the world.
Shichao also stated that he was not an alcoholic and there were no detrimental effects in relation to the stunts he performed. However, he urged young kids to not replicate his stunts.
'Detrimental to human health'
A doctor based in London, Sara Kayat, said that the Chinese man was on the risk of passing out, vomiting and in the worst case, asphyxiation. She also said that excessive drinking can lead to deterioration in mental health alongside severe damage to the liver and an increase in blood pressure and cancer risk.
Alcohol policy expert Dr Jason Jiang said that the effects of excessive alcohol consumption may not surface in a short span of time but plays a role in increasing incidents of violence and serious injuries.
