Princess Diana’s evening outfit to be auctioned?
Princess Diana opted for a midnight blue velvet gown for the White House State dinner in 1985. As the footage of Princess Diana shaking a leg with the famous Hollywood actor, John Travolta went viral around the world, the midnight gown donned by the princess also grabbed eyeballs across the globe. Designed by Victor Edelstein, the popular ensemble held a special deal to the late Princess, as she was seen in it on many occasions. Estimated to cost between € 250,000-350,000, the midnight evening gown is one of the three outfits, which are being sold on December 9, 2019.
The iconic Victor Edelstein ensemble was one of the outfits that were sold by Princess Diana for an Aids charity auction held in June 1997, weeks before the princess passed away due to a tragic accident. According to the listing, the famous gown will accompany two other dark blue dresses, which were worn by Diana. The auction also includes a collection of clothes owned and worn by the fashion icons, Coco Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Hubert de Givenchy. Reportedly, the famous dress is up for auction as a part of Passion for Fashion auction.

Times when Princess Diana wore the midnight evening gown
Princess Diana wore the iconic ensemble on four major occasions, including a state visit to Austria in 1986. Apart from donning the outfit for her portrait by Lord Snowden, the late princess was seen once again in the midnight evening gown in the Royal Opera House in 1991.
