Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny published a new statement on his YouTube channel on Monday, calling on people to take to the streets.

What is this toad (Vladimir Putin) most afraid of?. What are these bunker thieves most afraid of? You know it perfectly, (they are afraid of) people taking to the streets,he said in his statement, adding that street protests were the essence of politics.

That's why don't be afraid, take the streets. Not for me, for yourselves and your future, he said.

The ruling concluded an hours-long court hearing set up at a police precinct where the politician was held since his arrest at a Moscow airport Sunday. His supporters gathered on Monday outside the police station where a makeshift court took place.

Navalny was detained at passport control at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport after flying in Sunday evening from Berlin, where he was treated following the poisoning in August that he blames on the Kremlin.Navalny's arrest adds another layer of tension to relations between Moscow and the West that have long been strained and were worsened by his poisoning.
