Spanish Pop star died after getting struck by fireworks on stage
30-year-old, Joana Sainz died after getting stuck by fireworks on stage while performing with her crew Super Hollywood Orchestra, at a festival in Spain
30-year-old, Joana Sainz was killed in a freak accident on stage, while she was performing with her crew, Super Hollywood Orchestra, at a festival in Spain on Sunday, September 1. The tragedy occurred when an exploding stage firework struck her. According to some eye witness, there were two rockets that launched at the same time, one went in the right direction and the other one hit the singer right in the abdominal area.
Tunes Turning into tragedy
Joana was performing with her team of 15 members, in the small town of Las Berlanas, about 80 miles northwest of Madrid, in a four-day long fiesta, when suddenly shards of metal hit her stomach as a pyrotechnic device exploded mid-performance. Soon after the incident, the paramedics attended the singer and transported her to the hospital in an unconscious state, where she was later pronounced dead.
A group promoter, Isidoro López informed the local news agency Avila Red, that no one from their team can explain how the tragedy occurred, "we have been doing the same thing for five years and never expected that such a thing could ever happen." He further added that the "sparks were meant to last for 15 to 20 seconds, to add a little fancy to the show." In this case, the manufacturer may have accidentally filled one of the sparklers with the wrong material, causing the device’s metal casing to explode, López informed.
Original footage of the tragic event
In a video from the festival, Joana can be seen performing with her crew on the stage, before the explosion abruptly ended the performance. She was the group’s principal dancer and chief choreographer, as she collapsed, her team rushed to her along with a doctor and four nurses who were in the audience.
Sainz was immediately taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to injuries. "A night started [with] partying and ended up in a terrible tragedy,” wrote a fan who posted a clip on Facebook of the incident. About 1000 people had attended the closing of the festival, that had to be shifted from the town square due to its popularity.
The town of Las Berlanas posted a tribute to Sainz on its official Facebook page in memory of the lost artist, “We want to pay our condolences to the family of Joana . . . of the Super Hollywood group who yesterday passed away, as well as to her group members. RIP Johana Sainz. You are in our memory.” it stated.
