A Spanish Air Force cargo plane arrived in Madrid on Monday carrying 1 million tests for the new coronavirus.

The aircraft had picked up the tests from China and also brought masks and personal protection equipment for health workers.

Spain has the third-highest number of reported infections in the world, after the United States and Italy.

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said the plane was carrying almost 14 metric tons of cargo.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
