Taiwan celebrated its first pride parade on October 26, after legalizing gay marriage. There were more than two hundred thousand people that danced during pride
Taiwan celebrated its first pride parade on Saturday, October 26, after legalising the gay marriage. There were more than 200,000 people that danced and marched through the Taipei wearing the rainbow colours to support the historic decision of legalising same-gender marriage in Asia. The sight was vibrant and people looked happy.
The biggest pride parade
As per reports, there are more than 2,000 gay couples who tied their knots after the verdict and participated in the Saturday celebration. Taiwan is famous for its largest pride marches. The island has hosted several such pride parades since long, but the decision of legalizing gay marriages gave the LGBT community another reason to call for a big celebration. The verdict was announced in the month of May this year when the lawmakers of Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage. Taiwan becomes the first in Asia to do so.
LGBT community proud to be part of Taiwan
The people of the LGBT community were excited after the verdict and felt recognised for their sexual preferences. They were happy that the state validated their identity and now they can love and live freely. The decision will bridge the social disparities bringing the world together. During the pride parade people worn vibrant colours, mostly representing the rainbow. One can witness people dancing with gym-honed bodies, to unicorns and rainbow colours in the air. Many people posted on Twitter the beautiful pictures of the pride parade with many happy faces.
Taiwan has been progressive in its approach to gay marriages
Some expressed that they feel proud to be part of Taiwan which has portrayed a progressive attitude towards gay marriages and increasingly organising large pride parades. There were 170,000 people who attended the festival. However, considering same-sex equality, there is a sense of polarization in society.
