Canadian PM Justin Trudeau eyes keeping border restrictions in place

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that based upon meetings with the leaders of Canada's provinces, there's consesus to continue the temporary border restrictions that have been in place between the United States and Canada since March.

The restrictions were due to expire in May, but all parties agreed to extend the restrictions on non-essential travel across their shared borders for 30 additional days until June 22, 2020.

"We will keep discussing with with the United States administration on ways forward. But our priority on this is to ensure that we're keeping Canadians safe while continuing to ensure the flow of essential goods and services."

When a reporter suggested that some Americans tourists are visiting Canada, Trudeau said his government aims to make sure the rules are being applied "consistently" and the top priority is keeping Canadians safe.
