A university in the Netherlands has dug a grave for its students for 'purification' and call it a 'meditation grave' to help the students in coping up with the exam stress and reflect on the purpose of their existence. Radboud University in the city of Nijmegen encourages its students to meditate comfortably amidst the exam fever, which can also contribute to the improvement of their health. Behind the student's chapel in the campus, there are open graves with yoga mats and blanket with a sign that says 'stay weird'.
The Project, 'meditation grave'
The project of meditating in the grave was reportedly founded by John Hacking who is also a member of the staff member of the student's chapel. According to Hacking, by meditating in an open grave, the students will appreciate their time on earth and then with time, they will also be comfortable with the idea of death. Throughout the campus of the university, the project is called, 'memento mori' which is Latin of 'remember you will die'. It is even more peculiar as the students can book their 30 minutes to three-hour sessions in advance for meditating in the open grave.
'Daydream Hammock'
Along with the 'meditation grave,' the Radboud university also offers 'Daydream hammock' at the garden of Student Chapel which is also a recreational space for the students. It is also 'first come first serve' service in which students can lie down amidst the greenery of the campus and clear their minds. It is the university's idea to offer a 'break' for the students who sometimes feel the pressure of academics. Along with the unique ideas of providing relaxation to the students with continuous recreational outdoor activities like hiking.
