Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro will be meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as representatives of the Russian business community on September 25. President Maduro tweeted on Monday claiming that he will officially visit the Russian Federation and will be reviewing all the dynamics of the bilateral relationship. He further added that he is going to look for new ways that will intensify cooperation and exchange between both the countries, in the framework of constructing a multipolar world. President Maduro allegedly will be flying to Moscow later on September 24.
The Valdai Club meeting
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reportedly claimed that Putin and Maduro will be discussing the state of their two countries' relations and wider regional issues. He further added that he was not expecting any deals to be signed. Peskov also claimed earlier that Putin will meet with the Presidents of Venezuela, Kazakhstan, and the Philippines in Sochi on the sidelines of the Valdai Club meeting which is an annual gathering of Russian and Western foreign-policy experts. The Valdai Club meeting is set to take place from September 30 to October 3. Moscow has been Maduro's main supporters for providing loan and help for the Latin American country. President Maduro and President Putin will allegedly not be attending the ongoing 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly as well. Russia and few of the other countries also insist that President Maduro is only legitimate president of Venezuela.
The US on President Maduro
The United States has been pressurizing on Maduro to step down following months of protests against his rule. Earlier this year, the US also backed opposition leader Juan Guaido and disputed President Maduro's re-election. Guaido declared himself the interim President of Venezuela as well. In response, Nicolas Maduro called Guaido a US puppet and accused the US of trying to orchestrate a coup to force a change of government in Venezuela. Washington had also asked Russia and China to withdraw support for Maduro. The United States and other countries have also reportedly agreed to investigate associates and senior officials of Maduro's government who are suspected of crimes like drug trafficking and money laundering.
