A Zimbabwean school girl has fought against a large crocodile by jumping on its back and injuring its eyes to rescue her friend from the grasp of the reptile.
A Zimbabwean school girl has fought against a large crocodile by jumping on its back and injuring its eyes to rescue her friend from the grasp of the reptile, according to reports. According to the reports, the incident took place in Sinderela village in the Africa nation of Zimbabwe where a nine-year-old girl, Latoya Muwani, was attacked by a crocodile while swimming with her friends. The victim's friend, Rebecca Munkombwe, jumped on the back of the crocodile when she heard the screams of Latoya as the reptile was trying to pull her away into the water. She said that she was the only eldest person among them who were swimming and felt the necessity to save her friend's life.
Latoya was taken to hospital for treatment
The reports revealed that the crocodile had grabbed Latoya by her hand and leg. Rebecca realised that her friend was in trouble, immediately started wrestling with the crocodile and kept on hitting its eyes till its grip on the little girl was loosened.
Once Latoya was free from the grab of the crocodile, she swarms with her to the banks. She said the crocodile did not attack them again. Rebecca was not injured in the battle but her friend was rushed to St. Patrick's hospital for treatment. A nurse of the hospital told the local media on the condition of anonymity said that the young child managed to escape with mild injuries.
The father of the victim was grateful to God
The father of the victim said that when he heard the news of her daughter being attacked, he was shocked. He further added that he did not know how Rebecca managed to save her and said he was grateful to God. He said his daughter is recovering soon and expects her to be discharged soon from the hospital. The local councillor of the village, Steve Chisose said that the crocodile attacks have become very common in the region because of lack of water supply which forces women and children to use unprotected resources. He said that the women are generally accompanied by their children who end up swimming in those water bodies.
