Russia warns of a 'catastrophic' nuclear escalation threat at military forum in China

Russia on Monday warned of a 'catastrophic' nuclear escalation threat or worse, the clash between nuclear powers at a forum in Beijing on October 30. Speaking at the Xiangshan Security Forum in China, Russia's defense minister Sergei Shoigu said that United States and its allies continue to "try to undermine Russia's security and deprive us of the will to resist," according to Russia’s state affiliated agency Tass."Having provoked an acute crisis in Europe, the West is trying to expand the crisis potential in the Asia Pacific," Russia's Shoigu said. "Direct involvement of countries with nuclear arsenals multiplies the strategic risks," he added.Shoigu reiterated Russia's status as a nuclear superpower, as he focussed on the ramifications awaiting the western world in case of imposition of more sanctions and attempts of isolating Moscow globally. "The Western line of steady escalation of the conflict with Russia carries the threat of a direct military clash between nuclear powers," Russian Defence minister said. The pain of war, chaos and turmoil, and loss of life are constantly playing out," Zhang said."Some countries, for fear that the world may stabilise, deliberately create turmoil, interfere in regional issues, interfere in other countries' internal affairs, and instigate colour revolutions,” the Chinese military official said. "Behind the scenes, they hand out knives and think nothing of provoking people into wars, ensuring that they're the ones who benefit from the chaos," he stressed. The latter said that while China is seeking to improve military-to-military ties with the United States, the Biden administration has been soaring tensions in the South China Sea.
