Todd Thompson at Ohio State University and many of his colleagues have been able to discover the tiniest black hole ever recorded. According to the professor, in a research study on black holes that orbit the stars without praying upon them, revealed a black hole which is only 3.3 times the mass of the sun.

Team of scientists discovered tiniest black hole

In a paper published by astrophysicists Todd Thompson in the journal Science, the team claimed that they have uncovered a new black hole which belongs to a new class of black holes that still remain to be unresearched. In a statement by Todd, he said that in the study there are hints that the black hole belongs to another population that is out there. The new black hole is situated 10,000 light-years away from Earth. Scientists propose that despite the huge mass of the black hole, it is merely 20 kilometers if the Manhattan city in New York.

Smallest black hole or not?

Thompson told international media that he and his team were baffled at the size gap between the biggest neutron stars and the smallest black holes. A black hole is not created itself, it happens when a larger star exploded after the period of supernova giving rise to the smallest black holes. The scientists reveal that the neutron stars are only 2 to 3 times the mass of Sun, whereas stars bigger than that have a tendency to collapse and give rise to a new black hole. It is still debatable if the discovered black hole is the smallest or not, but it has certainly paved the way for the study of a different class of black holes.

Look for new things with a new perspective

Thompson tweeted that the team found a non-interacting low-mass black hole-giant star binary system in the Milky Way galaxy. He also said that the black hole discoveries that were made in the past involved much larger objects. According to the astrophysicist is it important to look for new things with a new perspective, this will help in more future discoveries.
