Washington: It's November 5, the "Election Day" in the United States as the polling is currently underway in several states across the country. However, the most crucial is the seven swing states that will decide the future, Donald Trump or Kamala Harris witnessing a neck-to-neck fight between the two rivals.
As per the latest projections, 78-year-old Republican candidate Trump won North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and is currently leading Harris in other key states, including Arizona and Michigan although his lead is narrow, according to the latest projections as of 11:15 am IST.
Projections for Nevada are still pending.
Earlier in the day, Harris had been leading in Pennsylvania, but Trump has since surpassed her, now holding a lead of approximately two percentage points.
Trump Wins North Carolina
Former President Donald Trump won the battleground state of North Carolina on Tuesday. Trump receives the state’s 16 electoral votes after defeating Democratic nominee Kamala Harris . Trump also won the state in 2016 and 2020, but Democrats had been optimistic they could reverse previous outcomes with campaign spending, canvassing and Harris rallies. They also tried to link Trump to embattled Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson. But Trump and running mate JD Vance visited North Carolina often during the fall campaign, pushing a more protectionist economic agenda and promises to crack down on illegal immigration and the southern border.
Donald Trump Wins Georgia - Second Swing State
After securing North Carolina, Donald Trump has won his second swing state, Georgia, making it the first state to flip from the 2020 election results. In the previous election, Trump lost Georgia to Democrat Joe Biden by 11,779 votes—a figure that gained attention after Trump urged Georgia election officials to help him secure just enough votes to surpass Biden. He was later indicted in Georgia on racketeering charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
Donald Trump wins Pennsylvania
Donald Trump wins his third and most crucial battleground state, Pennsylvania, the largest swing state with 19 electoral votes, securing the presidential contest.
Trump Wins Wisconsin
As results unfolded for the historic US Presidential elections, Donald Trump maintained a significant lead in all the crucial swing states. Meanwhile, the polling is currently underway in several states across the country. However, the most crucial seats to decide the fate of Trump and his democratic rival Kamala Harris would be the seven swing states.
