Taiwan premier, Taipei residents on US election

Taiwan Premier Su Tseng-chang said on Friday that the Taiwanese government would continue to maintain good interaction with Washington, no matter who wins the presidential election.

Speaking to journalist in Taipei, Su said Taiwan would respect the results of the democratic elections in the U.S.

As the process of vote-counting continues in several states, the Taiwanese government is monitoring the Taiwan Strait situation and is in close contact with countries in the region to jointly ensure peace and stability, Su added.

Meanwhile, the Taiwanese people are paying close attention to the US election as some hope for a U.S. government more in line with Taiwan's interests when it comes to China.

President Tsai Ing-wen chaired a national security meeting last Saturday to discuss political developments in China and the U.S. elections.

Tsai assured the Taiwanese people that her government would deepen Taiwan-U.S. relations and strengthen peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
