Washington: Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a concession speech, where she officially conceded the 2024 US Presidential election to rival Republican nominee and President-elect Donald Trump, on the campus of Howard University in Washington. During her address, while expressing gratitude to all her supporters for putting faith in her, she motivated them to keep the hope alive, saying that the time is not to throw up themselves but to be prepared to remain engaged in their fight for democracy. Harris, who took to the stage at her alma mater in Washington before a crowd of devoted democrats, called Trump earlier in the day and congratulated him.

In her heartfelt address, she said that it the time to be more organised, to be more mobilised and to remain engaged in their fight for the people of America.

Addressing the American youths, Kamala Harris said, "You have the capacity to do extraordinary good in the world. To everyone who is watching: do not despair. This is not the time to throw up our hands, this is the time to roll up our sleeves, to organize, to mobilize and to stay engaged."

At her concession speech, Harris conceded to Trump saying, “We must accept the results of this election.”

The US Vice President also thanked her husband, Doug Emhoff, US President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden along with her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Harris Emphasizes ‘Peaceful Transfer Of Power’

In her address, Harris emphasized that Americans "owe loyalty not to a president or to a party, but to the Constitution of the United States.”

She said during her concession speech that while she conceded the election, she did not concede the "fight that fueled this campaign." However, she asserted that she called Trump to congratulate him on his victory and discuss a peaceful transfer of power. "Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power," Harris stated.

Highlighted Reproductive Rights

In her speech, Harris highlighted her pledge to fight for the "dreams, ambitions and aspirations" of Americans, including the dream, "where the women of America have the freedom to make decisions about their own body and not having their government telling them what to do."

While Harris was delivering the speech, her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, was in the audience along with Nancy Pelosi, the former House speaker, and Barbara Lee, both from Harris’ home state of California.
