Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted to describe the attack as "senseless", saying "Canadians across the country are mourning" with those who lost loved ones.
Officials said Sunday the suspected shooter was also dead, while a police officer was among those killed.
To those who lost loved ones following the senseless violence in Nova Scotia, and to the @RCMPNS family mourning the loss of Cst. Heidi Stevenson, know Canadians across the country are mourning with you - and are here to support you through this tragedy. https://t.co/J6TM2od0Le

Several bodies were found inside and outside one home in the small, rural town of Portapique, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) north of Halifax - what police called the first scene.
Bodies were also found at other locations.
The assault began late Saturday, and authorities believe the shooter may have targeted his first victims but then began attacking randomly.
