Two men have been arrested as part of a year-long investigation, for financing the arming of a future "race war" through drug trafficking, Spanish police said on Sunday. Regional police in Catalonia and Spanish Civil Guards said the two men intended to form "isolated white supremacist groups" and were involved in financing these groups through drug trafficking.

The joint-operation was part of a wider investigation which started one year ago with the arrest of two men in the Spanish regions of Catalonia and Valencia. The new arrests ordered by Catalan authorities were made in Malaga and Navarra. According to authorities the group was enhancing its armed capacity to prepare for what they called a "racial war".

Police say the men are suspects of promoting hate against foreigners, possession of explosives, appraisal of racist terrorism and for being a threat to public health. According to a police report, the men had also posted messages on social media platforms that praised an Australian man who shot dead 51 Muslims in Christchurch, New Zealand, in March 2019.
