Starmer questions UK PM's silence on Floyd death

British prime minister Boris Johnson came under pressure Wednesday to condemn the killing of George Floyd, during questions in parliament from opposition leader Keir Starmer. Floyd, a handcuffed black man, died last week after a white Minneapolis policeman pressed his knee into his neck for several minutes even after he stopped moving and pleading for air. "I'm surprised the Prime Minister hasn't said anything about this yet, but I do hope that next time he speaks to President Trump, he will convey to him the UK's abhorrence about his response to the events," Starmer said. Johnson replied he was associating himself with Starmer's words, saying Floyd's death was "appalling" and "inexcusable". "I perfectly understand people's right to protest what took place there," he said, adding that he believed the protests should take place "in a lawful and reasonable way."
