UK hospitals record 888 more virus deaths
UK Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick also confirmed there had been a disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on black and ethnic minority communities in Britain.
Authorities in the United Kingdom confirmed a further 888 coronavirus deaths on Saturday, but hospital admissions continued to slow in London and the Midlands.
The latest deaths brought the overall hospital death toll in the UK to 15,464.
UK Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick also confirmed there had been a disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on black and ethnic minority communities in Britain.
"It's right that we do resesarch swiftly so that we can better understand it and then take any action that is required," he said, referring to work that had been commissioned from Public Health England on the issue.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks.
For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
