People at the Alton Towers amusement Park in England's Staffordshire got more adventure than they bargained for as a rollercoaster got stuck midway on Tuesday.

The enthusiastic bunch of people who expected a fun-filled rollercoaster ride named 'The Smiler' at the amusement park were instead left disappointed and dangling in their rollercoaster carts at over 100-feet. A video that was tweeted shows the ride with people halted at a steep incline. Here's the terrifying video:

The video clearly shows the state of The Smiler which halted midway during the ride. People were stranded and had no other options except resorting to gazing at the sky above them. The incident occurred for a brief window of over 20 minutes before The Smiler started again. However, as per reports, no one was injured and the ride was operational yet again. Onlookers at the amusement park also said that even though no serious mishap occurred, the ones taking the ride were horrified and were screaming as they dangled in mid-air. Meanwhile, reports also indicated that Alton Towers has extended an apology and said:

"We apologise to all guests affected by the stoppage on The Smiler. Our guest relations team have spoken to everyone on board to offer return tickets to the park as compensation for the inconvenience. Our technical team is working to reset the ride so this should not affect guests visiting the park on Wednesday."

The Smiler was launched in 2013 and has been a subject of multiple talks revolving around safety procedures. It has also come under scrutiny for a number of technical and structural issues. Reports also mentioned that back in 2015, a serious mishap occurred when a loaded train collided with an empty test train, causing serious injuries to a number of riders.
